My Background

For over 15 years, I have been helping adolescents and adults with behavioral health issues feel better and begin living their lives based on true values. I am a licensed counselor who provides practical help to those who are experiencing problems such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, relationship issues and more. I believe that it is necessary to feel compassion, support and safety before you are able to begin making choices for health and recovery, and I provide a warm, nonjudgmental atmosphere within the therapy process.

When I reflect on why I became a therapist, many things come to mind – all of which I believe happened at the right moment in the right place. Timing combined with my strong sense of perseverance placed me in the position to receive what I believe is my gift. This gift is also my passion – the ability to sit with others as they experience emotional pain and offer guidance and support as they explore what they need in the moment. I also have my own experiences with anxiety and a loved one’s addiction. These pieces of my life, along with an internship at a local VA hospital early on during my graduate studies, have not only driven me into the helping profession, but have also increased my own self-awareness and empathy for others that might be struggling.

I have experience in inpatient/crisis services and outpatient substance abuse programs and have worked as a certified DWI treatment provider in the past. I worked alongside the Durham Police Department, providing outreach for youth in crisis, ages 16-21, and also facilitated the Family Program for the Mecklenburg County Substance Abuse Services Center. In addition, I have experience working in both residential and outpatient treatment settings for eating disorders. I have special expertise in addictions and eating disorders, and a heart for working with couples and families.

I am Tarheel born and Tarheel bred and enjoy friendly rivalry during the ACC basketball season. I grew up in Winston Salem, N.C. and spent much of my adult life in the Chapel Hill/Durham area before moving to Charlotte in 2013. I also enjoy volunteering and giving back to the community through participating in organizations like the Carolina Poodle Rescue and Give An Hour, providing no-cost mental health services to veterans and their families.

I am passionate about meeting you where you are in the growth and healing process and guiding you as you find your own way of living a life based on meaning and values. I believe when we can learn how to get out of our own way, everyone has the capacity for finding peace and happiness within ourselves.
